If you’re reading this blog post, chances are you’re recently engaged, so first things first, huge congratulations on your engagement.

Planning Journey

Most newly engaged couples are blissfully unaware that they are about to embark on the biggest planning journey they have encountered so far. This journey will come with a whole host of emotions ranging from pure elation and excitement through to utter exhaustion and overwhelm, as well as everything in between. And although each wedding planning journey will differ, the end goal is always the same – To plan a wedding that truly reflects you as a couple and to create memories for you and your guests that will last a lifetime.

Planning Guides

Now back to the dreaded word, “overwhelm”.

The main reason for overwhelm is often caused by couples being at a loss of where to start. So to help you avoid overwhelm and to set you on the right track, I am very excited to be sharing with you a wedding planning checklist for you to use as a GUIDE when planning your wedding day. You will notice I use the word guide, because it is just that, a guide that can be adapted to perfectly suit your wedding planning journey.

You will see lots of guides telling you which tasks you should be carrying out 12 months, 10 months, 3 months and so on before your wedding day. But, not every couple will have the same length of time to plan their wedding, so I personally prefer to use an order in which you should consider tackling your wedding planning, in place of a timescale.

Of course, this should be adjusted accordingly depending on your wedding day priorities. For example, if there is a particular photographer that you absolutely need to work with on your wedding day, then make checking their availability the first job on your to do list. You can even use their availability to set your wedding date, if you wish. Or, if show stopping floral installations sits firmly at the top of your priorities list, then don’t put off booking your florist because a planning schedule tells you that your florist should be the fourth supplier you book, or should be booked 8 months before the big day. Instead make the florist the first supplier you confirm for your wedding day, so you can be sure to book your first choice florist.

Planning checklists

I have shared two planning checklists below, the first is for a wedding and ceremony taking place within the same venue and the second being a church ceremony with a marquee reception.

You will see that the foundations are the same and they have simply been tweaked to include elements relating to the particular style of wedding.

Please do remember that no two weddings are the same, so it stands to reason that each couples planning journey will differ slightly. It’s perfectly fine to adjust the order in which you choose to book each element of your special day, as well as adding and removing factors accordingly.
