If you are reading this blog post, then I’m guessing you are newly engaged. So, many congratulations to you both, and welcome to the wonderful world of wedding planning.

As you have probably gathered, I am an Essex based wedding planner who is completely obsessed with everything weddings. I adore working with each of my couples, listening to their hopes and ideas for their wedding day, and then working with them to plan and deliver the wedding day they have always dreamed of.

As no two weddings are the same, I am proud to offer a selection of wedding planning services, which allows me to work with couples who are at different stages of planning their weddings and also have varying budgets and requirements.

The majority of couples who reach out to a wedding planner soon after their engagement do so because they quite simply have no idea where to start.  They have found themselves in unknown territory and feeling completely overwhelmed with the choices that are available, as well as being unsure how they will find the time to plan their wedding alongside their existing work and family commitments.

If this sounds familiar you will be pleased to know that I am sharing a selection of my planning tips to help set you on the right track for planning your wedding day.

Celebrate

First things first, you will no doubt be in high demand.  So, clear your diary for the next few weeks and let the champagne flow.  Enjoy showing off that ring, and most importantly celebrate your newly found status as an engaged couple.

Get inspired

Once you have recovered from celebrating you will need to invest time researching.  Put your train journeys, lunchtimes and quite frankly any spare time to good use and begin searching for inspiration.  A good place to start is to allow wedding blogs into your life.  Embrace wedding blogs and in know time at all you will be bursting full of creative and practical ideas for your forth coming nuptials.

Wedding blogs regulary feature real weddings where you will find realistic and honest advise from recently married couples.  In addition to this, you will also find top tips and helpful articles from professional wedding suppliers.

Instagram is also a fabulous platform offering inspiration for brides to be.  Images from real weddings and styled shoots posted by wedding suppliers will provide you with realistic and achievable inspiration for your own wedding day.

Agree your budget

Not the most exciting subject, but unfortunately it is an important part of your wedding planning journey. Taking time early on to establish a clear and realistic budget will instantly set you on the correct path saving you valuable time in the long run.

When setting a budget you will need to discuss how much you are willing and able to invest in your wedding day.  Discover if you will be self funding your wedding, or if any family members are able to contribute towards your special day.  Once you have set your budget you can then move on to the more exciting details associated with planning a wedding.

Draft guest list

Just as important as agreeing your budget, putting together a draft guest list in the early stages of planning your wedding is essential. Of course, this doesn’t have to be your final guest list, but it does need to give you an idea of how many guests you are expecting to be celebrating your wedding day with you.  Once you have your draft guest list in place you can then begin researching and shortlisting wedding venues that can accommodate your expected guest numbers.  Remembering to check each venues minimum and maximum guest requirements, as well as thier child policy.
